Jesus-Christ-our-foundation. The culmination of all prophesy, creator of the universe, the resurrection, the truth, our redeemer, and source of life.

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters."
Then God said, "Let there be light", and there was light.
John 1:1-5 NLT:
" In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him."
"The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone."
"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it."
When referring to the Lord as Jesus-Christ-our-foundation it would be fruitful to examine what a foundation entails.
By it’s very nature the foundation of a building is mostly built underground where it can’t be seen. The foundation, however, even though hidden from sight, is the most important part of any edifice. It must be designed to effectively carry and support the structure that will be built on top of it. In addition, it must also be designed to do this no matter what external stresses and forces of nature it may be subjected to.
Now, scientist believe that our universe came into existence some 13.7 billion years ago. There are of course many different ideas, both theological and scientific, as to how the Universe actually came into existence. If you would like to read more on this topic I explore this subject more thoroughly in my post Creator-Or-Chance.
Wouldn't you agree, however, that there is one indisputable fact that everyone, regardless of their viewpoint, must accept? That is the fact that the entire universe, from the Cosmic level down to the minutest sub-atomic Quantum-particle level, is governed by what in layman’s terms can be called “fixed laws of nature”.
These “laws of nature” form the basis, or to put it another way, the “foundation” of everything that exists. It is also broadly accepted that our universe initially came into existence by means of the infusion of an incomprehensible, infinitely powerful release of energy often referred to as the ” Big Bang”. In fact everything that exists today is just a manifestation of a collection of some specific forms of that energy.
When considering our introductory texts it is clear that this is instigated by Jesus-Christ-our-foundation.
The Architect: The architect conceives and designs the edifice to be built. His primary objective is the aesthetics and functionality of the structure. Building regulations stipulating minimum basic requirements also have to be taken into consideration will also influence the design. The Engineer: The plans are then handed over to an engineer who will calculate the cumulative weight of the materials that will be utilized in building the structure. He will then asses how this weight will be dispersed throughout the structure, and also determine how to accommodated the resulting stresses. He must also take into consideration the effects of the elements such as wind, rain and the expansion and contraction caused be baking sunshine followed by subsequent cooling. With taller buildings it even becomes essential to plan for the effect that an earthquake would have on the structure.
Only then can the final plans be drawn up for the foundations that will support the structure.
The Builder: The final plans are then passed on to the builders who tackle the actual physical assembly of the structure. They establish and prepare the building site, excavate the trenches for the foundations, install the prescribed re-enforcing, and start pouring concrete. Once the concrete foundations have set, construction of the surface structure can commence using the materials prescribed on the plans.
The Maintenance Contractor: After completion and occupation the building becomes subject to the vagaries of “wear-and-tare”. Maintenance contractors and even decorators are periodically called in to ensure that the structure remains sound and presentable.
So, to summarize, we accept that earthly structures and their foundations involve an Architect, an Engineer (both structural and electrical), a Builder possessing all the different trades that are required for the physical erection of the edifice and, eventually, the services of a Maintenance Contractor.
You may ask: How does all this pertain to Jesus-Christ-our-foundation? Well, surely as Creator Jesus embodies all these functions and much more?
Returning to the introductory Biblical texts quoted above we see that, in the Scriptures, Jesus-Christ-our-foundation is clearly portrayed as the Word, that aspect of the Godhead responsible for the Creation of the Universe and the infusion with Life to all living creatures, including ourselves.
Most believers we will not have much difficulty in identifying Jesus with each one of the above rolls regarding His Creation work. There is something we must comprehend, however, to enable us to more fully grasp Jesus’ omnipotence.
It is the fact that just as the building of earthly structures are strictly regulated by fixed laws and regulations that must be complied with so too are there fixed principles with regards to the functions of the Universe. Here Jesus fulfilled yet another roll, that of lawmaker. At moment of Creation, when he spoke everything into existence, He himself instantaneously also established the “Laws of Nature” that would regulate the existence, development, and the functioning of his Creation.
We hereby come to accept that all creation rests on Jesus Christ as Creator, Developer, Regulator, and Sustainer. Truly, in every respect we can refer to him as Jesus-Christ-our-foundation.
