The-Meaning-Of-Life
Its Purpose, Potential, And Destiny

The-Meaning-Of-Life? Why are we here, and where are we going?

The Christian View Of The Source Of Life?

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.

John 1:1-4 NLT

Asking what is the-meaning-of-life is a very valid question. Believing we have been created raises the profound query as to the reason and actual purpose for our creation? The answers to these questions then raise further questions as to the potential for fulfilling this purpose and reaching our ultimate destiny?

 Religion, Philosophy, And The-Meaning-Of-Life.

Atheism:

It is the conviction of Atheists regarding of the-meaning-of-life that there is no reason for existence and there awaits only unconscious everlasting oblivion for us after we die. Life for them consists of just a short period of physical existence on this earth – and then nothing! The question of the-meaning-of-life doesn’t even come into their equation. They say it just “happened”!

Could the reason for life, however, ultimately be so shallow as to entail no more than just the survival and procreation one’s own specie? Are we in fact, although evidently biologically and intellectually more sophisticated, in the final analysis still operating on the same physical and moral level as animals or even protozoa and microbes?

Life Sciences And The Meaning Of Life?

The whole host of Life Sciences don’t help us very much either. Their expertise lies in the vast and elaborate fields of the study of living organisms. As important and insightful as these fields of study are, they are unable to give us unequivocal answers to questions such as the-origin-of-life, or our paradigms regarding the reason and meaning for our existence.

All the Life Sciences, by their very nature, are restricted to the study of the actual physical, social and mental functions of all living organisms consisting of life-and-matter, including ourselves. The reason and meaning behind our existence, however, are ethereal concepts which cannot be scientifically measured or proven.

Therefore, ultimately, any views in this regard, no matter how educated and well informed, unavoidably remain no more than just someone’s opinion.

Is everything that exists in the final analysis the handwork of a Creator, or did everything originate purely as the spontaneous result of random Chance? In this regard our “gut-feeling” seems to reject a concept based purely on random Chance .

We have all been imbued with an intuition that there must be some Higher Calling and Purpose behind our existence? We instinctively sense that we are somehow part of something Bigger than ourselves? It is this that inspires us, invoking in us a sense of Purpose and Potential that guides us in striving for enhancement, and in the search to find Truth, Beauty, and Goodness – as well as the Source thereof!

The question of the-meaning-of-life has inspired mankind since the dawn of history. Our capacity for abstract thought goads us to accept that there is only one other logical option besides random Chance. That is the conclusion that everything came into existence through a Supernatural Creator which we call God!

This of course is the cornerstone of all religion.

The Christian View Of The-Meaning-Of-Life

As Christians, we believe that the many-faceted Creator God whom we worship has one main profound characteristic, and that is Love! We have only a vague notion as to why we were created. The Bible gives an indication of rebellion in the Heavenly Realms - a battle that is still in progress! For some reason this has something to do with our creation. What we are certain of is that this was done out of love!

The apostle Paul puts it profoundly when he writes:

"When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see things with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. Three things will last forever – faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love.”

1 Corinthians 13 NLT

Could there be a more profound insight into the question of what is the The-Meaning-Of-Life?
